Single Implant
Implants can offer a conservative, esthetic replacement of a single tooth no matter the location in the mouth. This is especially true when an implant is placed during the same appointment as the extraction of that tooth. By placing an implant at the time of extraction, it is possible to save as much bone and tissue as possible making the end result look more natural and esthetic. Occasionally its not the best option to place an implant the same appointment as the extraction. In these cases, a bone graft may be preferred to help fill in the space left behind in the bone from the extraction. This process aids the bone to fill in more quickly leaving a more generous site for implant placement.
There are situations where the bone has shrunken down so much after an extraction that a boney and or tissue defect is present. This can be a challenging situation especially in the front of the mouth. However there are some periodontal procedures that can be performed to help with esthetics around implants. These options are considered months after placement and stabilization of the implant and bone level.
Implants are still the most conservative approach to tooth replacement as the adjacent teeth do not have to be involved in the treatments unless they also need to be restored. Home care is performed around an implant the same way you would care for you natural teeth. Brushing and flossing and having regular check ups and cleanings.
