Fixed Implants

Non removable appliances sometimes referred to as “all on 4” or even 6.  With this treatment, a patient can come to the clinic and leave with a fixed temporary appliance to permanently wear while healing.  Usually the temporary itself will be a nice improvement in esthetics and function for most people by replacing teeth missing for years.
The temporary appliance is worn for period ranging from 4 to 6 months depending on individual conditions.  Impressions are taken and a personalized set up of teeth is fabricated for each patient with their specific esthetic needs in mind.  Every patient has the final say when it comes to the arrangement of their final appliance.
It is highly recommended, to come in for periodic examinations and special cleanings which includes removal of appliances to accommodate direct access to implants for proper cleaning as well as cleaning the underside of appliances and installation of new retention screws.  Regular checkups can help catch issues at the earliest stages.

Removable Implants

Just like the permanent procedure, teeth are usually all extracted and implants placed at the same appointment.  However the biggest difference is not having the removable appliance being retained by the implants while healing.  It generally takes anywhere from 6 to 8 months of healing prior to being able to move forward with fabrication of final prosthesis by adding retentive housings on the underside of the denture and also on tops of each implant to allow it to ‘snap in’.
Each option has its own benefit.  The fixed option of course as its name suggests, is fixed and does not come out unless removed by Dr Hargett.  It can be a challenge to clean underneath however regular visits with our hygienist can keep it clean as new.
The fixed option also restores functionality closest to natural permanent teeth and improves chewing efficiency.  While the removable appliance will still have some movement, it is a vast improvement over standard “floating” dentures.

“What About If I’ve Had My Teeth Out For Some Time?”

As long as there is sufficient bone to work with, either of these procedures may be performed even all teeth have been gone for years.
